I absolutely love making these DIY plates. I always make personalized plates when gifting baked goods to friends or family. I like to make birthday ones every year for my kids and these make great custom housewarming or hostess gifts. I like to do a set of 4 or 6 wrapped up with a big bow and include other accessories to pair with the plates like a table runner or a cute serving platter. Another great idea is to have the kids make their own, so they have sweet mementos when they are older. Get creative and have fun with these.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

  • White Ceramic Plates (I got mine from the dollar store)
  • Oil based markers
  • Dry erase marker
  • Nail polish
  • Q tips

First, trace out your design using a dry erase marker. It will allow you to erase something you may not like and re do it. It will help having a guide once you use your oil marker.

Using an oil based paint marker, trace your design over the dry erase marker. Don’t worry about any dry erase marker that may be on the outside of your oil design. They will wipe right off.

If you make any mistakes with the oil marker, you can correct or erase using nail polish and q tips.

Once your masterpiece is complete, let the paint dry for about two hours.

Once dry, place your dish in a cold oven and set the oven to 300 degrees.

Bake your dishes for 40 minutes.

Remove your dish, let cool and begin using.
