My orange tree produced so many oranges this year that I started to think about how I could use some of them in the kitchen. Aside from squeezing some for fresh OJ, I decided to make this orange marmalade recipe. I love making jams and thought I’d give this a shot.

I researched some recipes and in the end decided to make up my own, and I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it came out! It’s the perfect blend of sweet and bitter, just the way orange marmalade should be. It took some time to make due to the cooling time, but honestly, this really was a cinch to cook. Hope you end up making some and enjoy it!


  • 8 oranges
  • 1 lemon
  • 7 cups of sugar
  • 7 cups of water

Cut the oranges into thick slices, keeping the skin on and tossing away any seeds. Place the sliced fruit and juice from one lemon into a pot. Add 7 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often. Take the pot off the heat and mix in the sugar until it dissolves. Cover and allow to cool for 10 hours.

Once the mixture has cooled, bring it back to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 2.5 hours. Turn up the heat and boil slowly for another 30 minutes. Be sure to occasionally stir the mixture every 5 minutes or so. If any foam forms, skim it from the top to ensure a clear marmalade. You’ll know the marmalade is done when the temperature reads 220° on a candy thermometer. Pour the marmalade into sanitized Mason jars and store for up to a year.
