This Pasta with Sausage and Peas is one of my favorite pasta dishes, and is super simple and easy to make. My mom used to make this for us so it’s a real comfort food of mine, and my kids have also grown up on it and love it equally as much. I’ve modified it from the original recipe, trying to cut down on the fat without losing the flavor. I substitute regular pasta with gluten free pasta, and use 97% fat free spicy turkey sausage. I hope you enjoy this as much as my family and I do, and that it becomes a regular quick fix meal in your home!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- ½ pound of spicy lean turkey sausage
- 1 box of gluten free pasta
- 1 bag of frozen peas
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasonings
- 4 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
In a stockpot, fill the pot with water and wait for it to boil. Once it has reached a rapid boil, add pasta to the water and cook according to the pasta instructions. Spray non-stick spray into a pan and put the turkey sausage in the pan and sauté until it is fully cooked. Once the turkey is cooked, remove it from the pan leaving any drippings in the pan. Sauté the crushed garlic, Italian seasonings and red pepper flakes together. Drain the pasta from the pot and add to the pan with the seasonings. Toss the turkey back into the pan along with the thawed out peas. Drizzle the olive oil over all the pasta and toss. Serve in bowls and top with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
